Their Hearts are but Blind

Allah tells us in the Holy Quran that,

“It is not the eyes that are blind, but the Hearts.”

I couldn’t agree more (not that it would affect the greatness of the Almighty’s words).  The eyes see the truth and the mind understands the logic behind it but it is indeed the heart that keeps one from believing what is so obvious and right.

You can give dawah to a person and show him proofs, make him understand to the point where he accepts everything you have said.  But after you leave that person,  he goes back to his old ways.

Why?  Was he just pretending and acting to get you off his case?  Could it be that he doesn’t really care even though he seemed very well convinced and interested then? Or is there a deeper reason? I too never understood this until I asked a friend what the reason could be.  Why was giving dawah to this particular type of person so hard? Even when I was there trying my best to portray the best practical examples I could. The answer I got was deep yet simple

You’re only reaching their mind,  what you need is to reach their heart.”

One cannot change until and unless his heart desires it. Until his heart believes what you have convinced his Mind of. You need to help him feel it.  Help him to feel the importance of what you’re saying; the urge to make a change for the sake of Allah.  You need to fill his heart with the love of Allah and the desire of achieving Jannah.

When you do that, it is then, my friend, that you have successfully touched the heart. And insha’Allah you will see the results.

Although I would like to make clear that I am in no way saying that all you need to do is focus on the heart alone. The mind is just as important.

” Balance is the Key.”

The night better than a thousand months

The night better than a thousand months

The month of Ramadan is a very special month filled with numerous blessings and virtues. The whole month is spent worshipping Allah and refraining from sins or unpleasant deeds like no other month in the year and the intensity and quality only increases as we move onto the last ten nights of this Holy and loved month. The main reason being the occurrence of  Laylat-ul-Qadr ( Night of Decree).

The Prophet (sallalahu alaihi wasalam) used to strive harder during these last ten days than any other days.

Laylat-ul-Qadr is the night of decree, the night on which the destiny of every creature is ordained for the following year.

When is Laylat ul Qadr?

How do we know which night is going to be Laylat ul Qadr? The answer is pretty simple, we don’t. We cannot be certain of the night of qadr as this information is not know to us. The hikmah behind this is that if we knew which night is laylat ul qadr we wouldn’t make the effort of ibadah, in the rest of the nights. So it is depicted from the various authentic ahadith that the night of Qadr changes from year to year.

We do however, have a few signs which can signal to that beautiful night full of blessings.

Signs of Laylat-ul-Qadr

  •  It is of the odd-numbered nights.

Ayesha ( May Allah be pleased with her) narrated that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the odd-numbered nights of the last ten nights.

Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 4/259

  •  The night is a soft, gentle, and peaceful night. Not too cold and not too hot, perfectly comfortable.

the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Laylat al-Qadr is a pleasant night, neither hot nor cold, and the following day the sun rises red and weak.”

Saheeh Ibn Khuzaymah, 2912; Musnad al Tayaalisi

  • As mentioned in the above hadith, the sun rises the following day without visible sun rays, red and weak.

  • The night is bright.

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Laylat al-Qadr is a bright night, neither hot nor cold, in which no meteors are seen.”

Majma’ al-Zawaa’id, 3/179; Musnad Ahmad

It is not essential for the one who “catches” Laylat al-Qadr to know that he has “caught” it. The point is to strive hard and to be sincere in worship, whether or not one knows that one has “caught” it. It may be that some of those who do not know that may be better with Allaah and higher in status than those who did know which night it was, because the former strove hard. We ask Allaah to accept our fasting our prayer at night, and to help us to remember Him and to thank Him and to worship Him properly. May Allah bless our Prophet Muhammad.
