An art teacher said once: one day, I asked my little students in the primary class to draw the imagery of Spring (season)
All of them drew flowers, trees, rivers, birds, etc.…except one student who drew a Mushaf (Quran). I asked her why she drew a book of Qur’an. Her innocent answer brought tears to my eyes….
She said: “Qur’an is the Spring of my heart, that’s what mom taught me… Don’t we say in Dua’a :” I pray to Allah to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the reliever of my distress?!”
MashaAllah! What a great and righteous mother is the one who raised this little girl!
Oh, Allah make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, the light of my chest, the remover of my sadness, and the reliever of my distress, Aameen.

Today, I was studying for my Islamic business management class, which entails the means of business success as well as its principles, the first thing that the author mentioned was having a full grasp on the concept of Tawhid.
The whole idea and everything he used to back his observations got to me. I mean it’s true! As Islam spread throughout the world and new people entered it, the main, pure concepts got a bit hazed and tainted each time. Gradually there came a point where the Islamic practices were just left as mindless rituals.
Muslims prayed and fasted without having a purpose in their mind. And quite frankly, that’s how much of the world is today. People carry out acts of worship because “it’s a big deal” but they have no clue why it’s a big deal. Why were they commanded to offer prayer, why do they go the whole day without eating, why do they celebrate Eid, etc.?
I don’t understand how people expect to get the blessings of such acts when they don’t know the purpose behind them. They complain of not being satisfied or fulfilled with the Islamic teachings but how can they if they don’t look into the history of Islam and its teachings?
Knowledge is crucial and I claim this time and again
“Without the proper knowledge, you cannot properly practice an act and get the desired results.“
We need to understand the basic principles of Islam and instill them in our lives if we truly want to be successful in this world and the next. Deen and Dunya aren’t and should not be regarded as separate states of our lives. One without the other will keep us from reaching our true potential.
And this isn’t just in the case of religion, it’s a fact of life and happens in every field. The founders of any organization have a much closer and intimate relationship with the subject at hand than the people who enter it years later. But there are ways to prevent the lack of connection here. Knowledge and passion.
A common example is a corporate business. Those who started it or are at the top level care about the business’ success much more than any other employees they hire. The employees only really care about getting paid because they don’t have the same connection as the founders. But if they know the history of the business and its true values and they feel like a part of that whole team, they will work with passion and with the success of the business in mind.
I have so much to say about the lack of knowledge keeping us from success and our beliefs but I will save that for a post of its own.
Quran Exegesis & Reminders
Their Hearts are but Blind

Allah tells us in the Holy Quran that,
“It is not the eyes that are blind, but the Hearts.”
I couldn’t agree more (not that it would affect the greatness of the Almighty’s words). The eyes see the truth and the mind understands the logic behind it but it is indeed the heart that keeps one from believing what is so obvious and right.
You can give dawah to a person and show him proofs, make him understand to the point where he accepts everything you have said. But after you leave that person, he goes back to his old ways.
Why? Was he just pretending and acting to get you off his case? Could it be that he doesn’t really care even though he seemed very well convinced and interested then? Or is there a deeper reason? I too never understood this until I asked a friend what the reason could be. Why was giving dawah to this particular type of person so hard? Even when I was there trying my best to portray the best practical examples I could. The answer I got was deep yet simple
” You’re only reaching their mind, what you need is to reach their heart.”
One cannot change until and unless his heart desires it. Until his heart believes what you have convinced his Mind of. You need to help him feel it. Help him to feel the importance of what you’re saying; the urge to make a change for the sake of Allah. You need to fill his heart with the love of Allah and the desire of achieving Jannah.
When you do that, it is then, my friend, that you have successfully touched the heart. And insha’Allah you will see the results.
Although I would like to make clear that I am in no way saying that all you need to do is focus on the heart alone. The mind is just as important.
” Balance is the Key.”
Ramadan 1442

Ramadan Mubarak!! We’re almost to the end of the first week of Ramadan and it still doesn’t feel like Ramadan. I’m not sure if that’s just me or you guys feel that too.
Last year was a very different Ramadan, the Masjids were closed here and everyone was in lockdown. This year, although the lockdown has been lifted and the mosques are open, it still feels like something is missing. Is it that solitude and solace or that motivation everybody had to build in their homes themselves so as not to lose the essence of Ramadan amidst the whole pandemic.
“Whenever you are alone remind yourself that Allah has sent everyone away so that there is only you and him .”
RUMI
For me personally, last Ramadan was the best one. I was all alone, and with not having work I could stay up all night to focus on my ibadah. I had managed to pray all the Taraweeh at home without feeling tired or sleepy and each salah was very personal and close to the heart. The connection developed with Allah was of closeness and awareness of Him.
Praying at the masjid is definitely great and creates a sense of unity, which is necessary but during the salah, the pace is different than it would be when you are having a one on one conversation with Allah. But then again, that’s what the sunnah prayers are for.
This year, my emphasis is on enhancing my relationship with Allah by studying His Names and Attributes resulting in a better and deeper knowledge of Him as well as developing a deeper understanding of the Quran by studying Tafseer and listening to lectures of the stories and lessons of each Juz. Insha’Allah I will share all that I have learned, here on my website one by one, so that you may benefit as well.
I pray that Allah makes this Ramadan one to remember and to make it beneficial for us and for us to leave Ramadan with His mercy and Forgiveness. May this Ramadan change our hearts for the better and May we be blessed with the opportunity to experience Laylat ul Qadar. Ameen
