Their Hearts are but Blind

Allah tells us in the Holy Quran that,

“It is not the eyes that are blind, but the Hearts.”

I couldn’t agree more (not that it would affect the greatness of the Almighty’s words).  The eyes see the truth and the mind understands the logic behind it but it is indeed the heart that keeps one from believing what is so obvious and right.

You can give dawah to a person and show him proofs, make him understand to the point where he accepts everything you have said.  But after you leave that person,  he goes back to his old ways.

Why?  Was he just pretending and acting to get you off his case?  Could it be that he doesn’t really care even though he seemed very well convinced and interested then? Or is there a deeper reason? I too never understood this until I asked a friend what the reason could be.  Why was giving dawah to this particular type of person so hard? Even when I was there trying my best to portray the best practical examples I could. The answer I got was deep yet simple

You’re only reaching their mind,  what you need is to reach their heart.”

One cannot change until and unless his heart desires it. Until his heart believes what you have convinced his Mind of. You need to help him feel it.  Help him to feel the importance of what you’re saying; the urge to make a change for the sake of Allah.  You need to fill his heart with the love of Allah and the desire of achieving Jannah.

When you do that, it is then, my friend, that you have successfully touched the heart. And insha’Allah you will see the results.

Although I would like to make clear that I am in no way saying that all you need to do is focus on the heart alone. The mind is just as important.

” Balance is the Key.”
